We have delivered numerous student residential schemes with Alumno over recent years. One of the most recognisable is the Park Hill Estate in Sheffield, which is one of only 5.8% of UK buildings which are Grade II* listed. Phase 3 of the redevelopment includes capacity for over 350 students, a communal area and commercial space on the ground floor of the building.

The development’s existing twin passenger lift had been out of service for 10 years. After measuring the existing lift shafts, our vertical transportation team proposed one 17-person lift as the main passenger lift servicing the block. Additionally, a smaller passenger lift is placed at the opposite end of the block, providing convenience for users and a contingency for maintenance or breakdowns.

Andy Bishop, Project Partner on the scheme, commented; "The original concrete structure was retained, posing difficulties for services distribution. The design had to comply with the existing builders’ work shaft whilst significantly improving the quality of the building for future occupants. To accommodate the existing structure, vertical clusters were created within the building, utilising a unique stacked townhouse layout."
