I had initially considered studying architecture but then left school without a university place and not really knowing what I wanted to do. I then did a year’s work experience with Arup which introduced me to structural engineering. I have gained enormous satisfaction from working on large-scale projects from start to finish – taking my family to the first match to be played in a stadium that I helped design was a particular highlight.

Creativity

Finding creative solutions for the refurbishment and re-purposing of city buildings (rather than demolition) is a particular area of interest. You never know what is hiding behind a ceiling or wall until you get on site and thinking on the fly brings out the best in me.

Collaboration

I have worked on many large, multi-disciplinary projects with colleagues who have varied mindsets and approaches to the tasks involved. I firmly believe that fostering a ‘thinking environment’ where everyone has the space and freedom to come up with their own ideas gives the best – and most durable – results in delivering projects that meet our clients’ needs.
