Key Appointments for Asia Pacific

Asia 13 October 2020

We are pleased to announce three key appointments for our business in Asia Pacific Region. The appointments include Julian Bott to the role of APAC Managing Director, Alex Saez to Operations Director, APAC, and Iris Chan as Associate Director in Shanghai, China.

The purpose of these roles is to help strengthen and expand our APAC portfolio in the coming years. Julian, Alex, and Iris are very familiar with our APAC operation as they were heavily involved in the Asia Pacific offices in the last few years.

Julian Bott has been with Cundall since 2005. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Hong Kong office in 2008 as well as leading sustainable design in APAC. Under his leadership, the Hong Kong office quickly picked up some landmark projects including the Hong Kong Children’s Hospital, and the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park Phase 3. He is currently based in our Sydney office and has been part of the APAC leadership team ever since. In this newly created role, he will be responsible for the overall APAC business direction and continuing to develop our presence in the region.

Alex Saez joined Cundall Madrid in 2011 as part of the MEP team and re-joined Cundall’s Singapore office in 2017. Alex has a wide range of project experiences in aviation, railway, critical systems, hospitals, industrial, workplace, hospitality, commercial, lifestyle, and urbanism. Alex has experience delivering projects in over 20 countries while spending his time in Spain, UK, Romania, Emirates, Oman, and Singapore. His new role will assist Julian in developing the business across APAC and aligning business targets among the offices.

Iris Chan has been with Cundall since 2011. After briefly exploring other ventures in 2018, she re-joins Cundall’s leadership team this year to further develop our business in China. Her expertise lies in sustainability design, carbon reduction strategy, and building performances improvements. Some of her projects include Hong Kong Science and Technology Park, Sydney Opera House upgrade, and retro-commissioning portfolio management for the Hong Kong Government buildings. Her new role will oversee the Shanghai office’s operation and continue our international excellence in China.

Julian Bott, APAC Managing Director says, “I look forward to working with the amazing team of talent in APAC and cannot wait to see what is ahead of us at Cundall. Despite the recent economic challenges caused by COVID-19, our team manages to weave through since our focused sectors such as data centres, education, mixed-use, and building performance improvements continue to grow. Therefore, we are very glad that the business has been developing stably in the region and showing our thought leadership in the relevant areas at the same time.”

Our Chairman and Partner, David Dryden comments “We welcome Julian, Alex, and Iris to their new roles in the APAC leadership team. Our team has been working very hard to build our APAC portfolio in the last few years, and I believe they will continue the good work."

We have been operating in Shanghai since 2007, and working collaboratively with the Hong Kong and Singapore offices to service the Asia markets. After the successful introduction and integration of Structural engineering into our list of services in 2018; we have completed several multi-disciplinary projects including hyper-scale data centres, education campuses, bridges and infrastructure designs, etc.
