Future vision makes Alex Shan finalist in CIBSE Young Engineer of the Year

Australia 14 June 2022

Cundall Sydney office is celebrating Senior Mechanical Engineer, Alex Shan, being shortlisted as one of the top three finalists for CIBSE ANZ 2022 Young Engineer of the Year Award.

In addition to giving details of his technical abilities and career achievements to the judging panel, Alex also produced a short video explaining his vision of the most important features of future buildings. He highlighted the importance of taking heed of the recent experience of rapid and unforeseen change and designing for flexibility and resilience, leveraging technology to enable buildings to be responsive and adaptable.

“This years' topic for the video entry got me thinking about what buildings will look like two decades on from now and what features I would expect them to have,” Alex explains.

“For me this is captured in one term: data-centric. Whilst there is still a lot of progress to make, it is exciting at the same time.”

Cundall Director Mohammad Ali said he and the rest of the Sydney team are delighted to see Alex recognised for his professional achievements and his vision of the future we are designing together.

“It is imperative we find ways to improve the way our built environment performs and Alex exemplifies the kind of talent, experience and technical abilities that will make all our buildings better places for people.”

The awards ceremony is being held at NSW Parliament House on July 7, and Cundall is proudly sponsoring the event.
